On the day of your laser eye surgery, everything is carefully orchestrated to ensure a smooth process. This page provides you with a clear overview of what to expect on this significant day. From arrival at the clinic to the procedure itself, we’ll guide you through the journey, so you can approach your surgery day with confidence and clarity.

What to Expect during the procedure

Laser Eye Surgery: How It Works

On the day of your eagerly anticipated laser eye surgery, it’s advisable to plan for a few hours at the clinic, although the actual surgical procedure itself typically lasts only 15 to 30 minutes per eye. This brief timeframe underscores the remarkable efficiency and precision of modern laser eye procedures.

Prior to the day of surgery, please carefully read and follow the pre-operative instructions that were given to you at the initial consultation.

When you arrive at Laser Eye and Aesthetics on the day of your procedure, you will first be checked in at the front desk. Your companion(s)/driver(s) can either wait for you at Laser Eye and Aesthetics or leave us with his/her/their phone number(s). Complimentary coffee, tea, soda, and snacks are available to your companion(s)/driver(s) at Laser Eye and Aesthetics.

Before the procedure commences, our dedicated team (laser technicians, nurses, and anesthesiologist and assistants) will be your side to make that that you are comfortable and relaxed throughout the process. You will be administered numbing eye drops to minimize any discomfort and ensure a painless experience. In addition to this, relaxation medication is carefully administered to help ease any pre-surgery nerves and ensure that you feel at ease throughout the procedure.

During the procedure, your surgeon will provide you with essential guidance on the positioning of your head and how to focus your eyes during the procedure. These instructions are instrumental in maintaining the utmost precision and accuracy during the surgery, ensuring the best possible visual outcome.

Following your laser eye procedure, you will receive post-operative care instructions that are tailored to your specific needs. These instructions are designed to facilitate a smooth recovery process, helping you transition back to your daily routine with minimal disruption.

After the eye procedure, we will be serving you snacks, coffee, tea, or sodas to help you stay relaxed, stabilize blood sugar level, and re-hydrate.

FAQ
What is laser eye surgery?

Laser eye surgery, also known as refractive surgery, is a procedure that uses a laser to reshape the cornea (the clear front part of the eye) in order to correct common vision problems such as nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism. During the procedure, a laser is used to remove a small amount of tissue from the cornea, thereby altering its shape. By reshaping the cornea, the laser helps to correct the way light enters the eye, improving vision.

Is laser eye surgery painful?

Most patients experience minimal discomfort during laser eye surgery. Anaesthetic eye drops are used to numb the eye, and some patients may feel slight pressure or a sensation of an instrument near the eye. After the procedure, there may be some mild discomfort or dryness, but this can typically be managed with eye drops and subsides within a few days.

What are the potential risks and complications of laser eye surgery?

While laser eye surgery is generally considered safe, like any surgical procedure, it carries some risks. Possible complications include dry eyes, glare or halos around lights, fluctuating vision, overcorrection or undercorrection of vision, infection, and vision loss (rare). It’s important to discuss these risks with your eye care professional.

How long does it take to recover from laser eye surgery?

The recovery time varies depending on the type of procedure performed. With LASIK, most people experience improved vision within a day or two and can resume normal activities within a week. PRK may require a longer recovery period, with vision gradually improving over several weeks. Your eye care professional will provide specific instructions for your recovery.
